How to Backup and Restore QCN File Using QPST Utility

The QCN file is the result of scanning the File System (EFS) Encryption partition which contains encrypted information such as IMEI, MEID, Serial Number, Configuration, Radio Settings and Settings, etc. in an encrypted format using the QPST Utility.

Many share it via the internet to fix signal problems on smartphones. Will be easier to find in online forums. It should not be arbitrary to use it; it must come from the same type of smartphone. For example, if you reserve QCN from smartphone A and copy it to smartphone B (the same model), then the IMEI Number of smartphone B will be the same as smartphone A. Both smartphones will have network problems, such as being slow to receive messages or calls. The solution is that you have to use another editor program to change the stored information in the QCN file before copying it to another smartphone. I will explain in another part to change the IMEI number in the QCN file.

Do you have to use QPST to back up QCN? In this sophisticated era, you can use another tool to do it. There are too many tools you can use to back up the EFS partition to be a QCN file. All of them work similarly, so in this post, I only introduced one software called QPST.

How to Backup

  1. The first step is to enable the Diag USB port on your mobile Diag. How to activate it depends on the type of Qualcomm smartphone. For example, dial-up *#*#717717#*#* and several other types of smartphones require to be rooted and write the ADB command line to activate Diag USB Port.
  2. Connect the smartphone to the computer and make sure the Qualcomm HS-USB Diagnostics 9091 (COMXXX) appears in the Windows Device Manager. If it does not seem, install the Qualcomm Drivers and then restart the computer and reconnect it.
  3. Run as administrator QFIL.exe in the directory C:\Program Files(x86)\Qualcomm\QPST\bin.
  4. Click the Select Port button and then select the Qualcomm HS-USB Diagnostics 9091 (COMXXX) then click OK.
  5. Click Tools → QCN Backup Restore.
  6. In the QCN File Path column rename 0000.qcn to the name you want. SPC Code 000000 and don't check Enable Multi-SIM.
  7. Click the Backup button and wait for it to finish.
